Hey.

Whatever happened to Schloppy Bush ?

And Civ 4 is the shiznit. I get Civ-Happy when I earn a Great General and it's Belisaurius. Since I don't play as Justinian, I don't have to poke his eyes out. Big B, as I call him, then commences the hurt on the Greeks and Ottomans.

Just Sayin.

Totally gagree.

Along those lines, I grew up obsessed with cheesy no-action-or-coordination-required mystery simulators, like my favorite game of all time (and one of the sparest), "JB Harold Murder Club" for the Turbo Grafx 16 (yeah, I had one).

Also, still much love for the slightly more mainstream "Deja Vu" and for the early PC football games where you simply called plays by typing the corresponding number, then were fed results on the screen and in an eventual GLORIOUS full box score printed out in Dot Matrix splendor. Blew Tecmo away, for me at least. Created my own faux league, with fake teams, stadium issues, controversial owners, etc. Ladies???

Lou - you leave me out of this. I'm five seasons into the greatest Stars dynasty the world has ever seen in NHL 2009 and after one more cup win in a few weeks, I will probably by this game, download the patches and whip all four of our readers with the results of my created player's NCAA career (2008 brought us Rocky Shocker, 2009 brought us Red McTaint - what will 2010 bring?)

Ioannis,

That Profit Farming game was my Christmas bonus after Massey-Ferguson had a tough year. It was good to see that it wasn't a "turkey" for you. We still have the old Commodore 64 if you want to crank it up again. The Broderbund Movie Maker game is still there, too.

The problem I had with SimCity was that my destructive impulses were even stronger than my resource management/outcome maximization impulses.

Any game where you have a button standing by that can unleash a tornado, hurricane, alien attack, or other mass disaster is not a game where I'll be focused on tweaking minutiae.

I played a lot of Civilization, some Harvest Moon... When I was a kid in the Midwest, someone gave my parents a board game called "Profit Farming". It was like Monopoly, except instead of properties you'd buy and cultivate fields of wheat, corn, and/or soybeans. Instead of going directly to jail, your fields would flood or your combine would break down.

I forced many a bored babysitter to play that game with me... For HOURS. I think one girl actually quit because she didn't want to waste her summer trapped in my house. Either she'd get stuck playing Profit Farming, or she'd have nothing to do but watch TV while I played Carmen Sandiego on our Commodore 64.

Since pretty much the only thing on TV was Oliver North and the Iran Contra hearings, she bailed out after a week to spend the summer at the mall with her friends.

I didn't mind, because she sucked at Profit Farming.

Not there yet though.

Also, that game sounds awesome. As far as sim/nerdy/managing type games go, I was always a SimCity dude, myself.
